The next Members meeting will be held on: 23rd September 1992 at Ruislip Manor Sports & Social Club

Guest Speaker

Paul Boote, of casting for gold fame will make one of very few slide shows on his latest visits to Africa in pursuit of the 'Goliath Tiger Fish', this is one not to be missed.

Harefield Licences

We have this year agreed with our landlords a five year lease for the fishing rights on Harefield No1, and even with the emergence of the Denham Quarry Trail we feel with the discussions we have had with the council the fishing should not be affected too much. Other new stipulations in the licence include the banning of carp sacks, livebaiting and prebaiting in Harefield No1.

Harefield No2

Due to the proposed trail around No2 the sailing base is erecting a fence around their site. This means that we cannot fish within this area normally, but if you ask Jeff Creek the Officer of the Day some limit fishing is available within this area.

British Airways Fishing

Tickets have been obtained from British Airways on a trial basis as part of an exchange deal, they have rivers and lakes various, to obtain tickets please contact Terry Gibson.

Langley Park

This advice applies to all waters but the specific incident happened at Langley. Anglers fishing at Langley had allowed fishing line to become entangled in trees, which could have proved to be a danger to wildlife, and failed to report the incident. The individuals have been expelled from the club summarily. The lessons from this incident are clear, members will not put wildlife at risk because of their thoughtless actions. It is understood that accidents and misjudgements occur from time to time. You should attempt to rectify them yourself, and if this is impossible contact the bailiff, fishery manager or committee for resolution.

Letter

Dear Terry,

As you are probably aware I have been a member for 27 years and am rejoining again in the hope that the disability I suffer will improve and allow me the occasional visit.

I was unable to go at all last year but still believe in miracles. I well remember the night I joined as at the meeting at Ruislip I asked the Chairman (good old Jack Clarke) if I could be interviewed and get away as soon as possible.

The reason for this was that my wife was expecting and upon my return home I was greeted with "you'd better go and get the midwife"

As my daughter was born (May 24th 1966) I was downstairs painting floats (2am) for the coming season. As the song say's "Ah yes I remember it well"

Best Wishes

Johnny Speight

The Langley Pratt

Here we are again the start of a new season, the weather is good, Langley is fishing well. I have fished the lake three times and we are three weeks into the season. As I look around, I think to myself, here we go again the Langley Pratt has arrived on the scene. The trees and bushes in Langley Park are starting to look like Christmas trees. There are boilies, rigs, spinners, yards of line and floats adorning them. I found hooks and line left in swims with a carp rig of two feet long, half in the water and half on the bank. Lesson one: how to tether a fish, the rig had a fixed lead on it. The Harrow Angling Society have a Committee and bailiffs, for you to inform if any problem should arise. The Langley Pratts have even smashed down the reeds in front of a swim on the private bank, totally unecessary. Please tell the committee or bailiffs if you see anybody destroying the plants and bank.

When this letter is published, I wonder how much more damage there will be, will there be a private bank left to fish on. Letting non anglers onto the private bank by broadcasting our combination lock number. The Langley Pratts do not help the club one bit, these actions have to stop.

There are enough Pratts over at Langley, without us adding to the list. The Dog and its owner are the worst enemy to the wildlife on the lake, for example: People feeding the wildlife on the lake and then allowing dogs to jump in and chase the birds without the owner intervening. I even saw a rotweiller attack a swan sending feathers flying and the owner apparantly not bothered. A little while later the evidence is spotted, who gets the blame, we do of course!

These incidents must stop, if they are your fault rectify them or seek someone who can. Do not ignore them and put the Society's name at risk. If you see any incidents that endanger the lake or its wildlife, please take note with date and time and report to the fishery manager.

Some members continue to park the wrong side of the log, even though there is a clear sign. Please ensure your visitors do the same, because you are responsible for their actions.

Yours annoyed

Terry Gibson
