Welcome to the Harrow Angling Society Newsletter. The old season has just come to an end and our thoughts turn to the new season and hopefully some warm comfortable fishing weather. Many of you have braved the elements and from the reports received have has some very deserved success. Annual General Meeting Will be held at 8.00pm Wednesday 17th April at Ruislip Manor Sports & Social Club. Renewals You will find with this Newsletter your renewal form, and I know the Committee are hoping you renew your membership for the Society for another year. Please return your membership renewal form in plenty of time, and remember your photograph, your SAE and cheque. This will allow the membership Secretary to process your renewal without delay. Please don't leave it too late to submit your renewal. The membership Secretary like the rest of us will be fishing for the first week of the season. So please do not send in for your membership at the last minute and expect to be fishing in the first week. New Members If you know anyone who is interested in joining the Society please encourage them to join. All the local tackle shops have got stocks of our new member forms. If you know any Tackle shops that we have missed or know of anywhere else that would stock our forms or would like your own personal stock please drop me an e-mail at vincent.sutton@btinternet.com or give me a call. Visitors Tickets There are a few slight changes to the visitors ticket procedure and the fees, for full details please see page 2. Night Fishing The Night Season Ticket has this year been extended to include Harefield No1 as well for this year, the fee will be the same as last year at £30. The ticket allows you to fish when you like at either Harefield lake, without the bother of applying for individual tickets. If you require occasional tickets for Harefield or tickets for Rowley Lake the new telephone procedure promised at the Members meeting has now come to fruition. For full details please see page 2. On the Web The site is now a year old and the response has been terrific, I've has e-mail from people seeing the site and wanting more information, and some new members. The e-fish report facility has been popular and stands at 69 for the season so far. The message board was slow but with your help we can get it moving again. So for all the information you could ever wish to have on the Society plus lots more along with up to the minute news please visit our website at http://www.harrowangling.co.uk/.

Yours Vince Sutton Chairman

Harefield No2 Following on from the last magazine the only fish reported coming out were Pike to 18 lb+. What with the Foot & Mouth outbreak, it denied everyone who wanted a last gasp fishing week to catch something. With the lakes being shut for most of the closed season, the only work we managed was at the tail end where some bits were done thanks to the usual faces who turned up. Come the 16th June, the usual faces turned up for a few days, a quick social then down to some serious fishing for a night. Hambostein decided to do a whip, between us £1 each for the first fish caught. His idea expecting to win it again for a second year. This time he was unlucky. Never mind there is always next year. On the fishing front up to writing (Jan 2002) Carp myself four fish to 28lb. GT four to 26lb and 2 off the top (Don't Count) Squire seven to 28lb. Jeff Lizzard 3 to 22lb (but it's a secret) Ralph Mouth 1 - 19lb, when he wasn't talking. Turnip blanked for a second year running. Rumours of some more Carp by other fisherman. Hambostein 1 Bream 12lb 4oz a lake record and many Perch to 3lb 14oz again a lake record. GT a 17+ Pike on a boily. This year there has been so many Pike caught on boilies, Pop Ups & Bottom bails, last year it was Bream, next year Tench? Few Tench & Bream were reported. Roach up to 1lb 4oz. Pike coming out on deadbailts to 19lb+. There was plenty of weed in the summer putting most fish out of angling range. On the Social front a good crowd gathered for the England v Germany game. A few beers and a curry assisted a great evening. Another was Turnips 40th birthday bash. We arranged a WPC to arrest him. He nearly fell for it then realised and gave us some abuse. No Xmas social this year due to lack of bodies. I went down for New Year's eve, rods had to come in by 7pm due to lake being frozen. On the working parties we will try and sort out Dews Farm Lane Car Park for next winter, so nobody will get stuck in the mud. If you casts into a tree and break off, please give us a call and we will go out in a boat to remove it. If a marker rod is being used when there are boats out, please dip it until they have gone. Common sense must prevail. That's it for now any problems or ideas give either of us a call.

Stop Press - Andrew Kempster caught a 32 lb 10 oz Mirror Carp from Harefield No2 on 2nd February 2002 on a borrowed bait!

Rowley Lake - February 02

I know Vince is tight for space in this newsletter so just a brief update:- Trees on the dam doctored. These works were not as extensive as we were lead to believe by our landlords. Thank God for that when you look at the desolation caused by the ditching work. However, Nature is very resilient and already new growth is pushing through. Other work proposed by our landlord is to level out the dam swim to eliminate this low point with the view to reducing the risk of a breach as happened last winter. When or if this work is to take place we do not know, but notice will be given if at all possible. Lots of Bream reported around 4lb, reports of a six and, get this, an eleven !!?? Tench to six and my old mate Jeff Brown taking a brace of sevens back in the summer. Rumour has it that someone had 15 in one session -I've tried but all I get is bream and more bream. I saw a guy down there last week who said he'd caught a small one! "How small ?"sez I, thinking a few ounces, "Four pound" he replied. Nuff said. Carp to 28lb. And after 28 years with the club I had my first 20lb Rowley common this winter a pristine piece of brass weighing 21lb 10oz. I have also had my share of eels this year - anybody else? This lovely fishery goes from strength to strength and with our lease now renewed who knows what the future holds. Working parties - Subject to manpower the bridge needs looking at and we need to create a holding pool below the outfall to contain any fish that disappear down the pipe. Sorry Ian but the lilies are in need of a knock back and this will be done when growth is under way. I also hope to reintroduce the liming now that we know our future is secure for the next few years at least. Plus the usual swim work and cutting back etc. If you have any power tools - strimmer, hedge cutter, lopper etc. please bring them. Bailiffs - Larry has 'retired' to concentrate on No.1.and Paul has moved to the Westcountry. Currently we have Ray Gough and Keith Hunt but could do with someone else local to help out. Please let me know if you are interested. I have my suspicions that we have Mink at Rowley; if anyone can confirm this please let me know and I will take steps to get rid. Coots and moorhens used to be in abundance, these and even the geese have disappeared. In the boathouse last year I found 5 dead moorhens. Finally, all our thanks should go out to Vince for his sterling work towards the continued running of this society. His forward thinking has brought us the HAS website and he is always willing to take things on when others are unable to respond - witness this newsletter - well done Mr. Chairman. That will do for now, time to go fishing, sorry I didn't include details of the latest curry doing the rounds or who's got the spottiest bottom but then that has nothing to do with fishing has it?

Cheers John Miles

Oh well, yet another season has come and gone. It has seen a good selection of fish being caught, consisting of Roach, Rudd, Tench and Bream. The Carp have come along very well and are being caught up to 18lb. As many of you have seen the car park has been done with the tarmac scrappings. The trees have now been cut to a safe height, which now means there will be plenty of clearing up. This will be carried out on the working party's. So we need lots of people to come along with their saw's and rakes, to get the lake ready for the new season. All members please note; that any work carried out should be put before the committee for permission as someone is responsible for cutting a new swim in on the lake.

Many Thanks Larry and Steve.
