Notice is hereby given of the Society's Annual General Meeting to be held at:
Your presence is welcomed.
(Secretary's note: Members are reminded that items of other business, and nominations for Officers or Committee posts, should be sent in writing to me not later than 2 weeks before the AGM. Nominees must have been full members for a minimum of 2 years.) We are especially looking for someone to take on the post of Society Editor following the departure of Warren. Vince is currently editing this newsletter and would gladly discuss the needs of the job with any willing volunteer. As a very sucessful ex editor, Vince would be on hand for help and advice, so please don't be put off applying if you think you are not yet ready for the job.
Terry Skelton Hon.Sec.
The new Database is up and running. Could all members please ensure their pre-printed details are correct and fill in as much additional information as possible e.g. e-mail address, Car Reg, D.O.B etc. The database is only as good as the information it contains. Since January, due to the early membership drive we have eight new members, two with night tickets. We are also trialing a new permit this year and would appreciate any feed back as to whether it's up to the job or not. Could you please supply a reasonably sized stamp addressed envelope for return of your tickets.
The Committee bought a mobile phone for the Membership Secretary's (number on page 2) use and it is switched on all of the time when I am not asleep, or busy at work, so I can be contacted most of the time. If the phone does not respond please try again later.

We are lucky to have a lot of experienced anglers in the Society. Remembering that we all have to start on the learning curve somewhere, could we persuade those with the experience to share it with us. Write, phone or preferably email in to the Chairman or Secretary with some of the useful tips you have picked up over the years e.g. How to tie a line to a spade-end hook in the dark. You might also want to include tips on the correct way to handle fish etc. Your Secretary is willing to sport a handsome prize for the best tip of the year.

Following on from the last newsletter on the Carp front another 12 or so fish out. Three new members getting their first fish out of No2:
Nod of the year award must go to GT who after setting up Forgot his landing net and guess what happened at midnight.
Hot news with the rumours, there supposedly was a 40lb+ caught last August, is it true or not, that is the question?
Thanks to one member who the other Saturday spent his time picking up all the rubbish Joe Public leaves when they go on their stroll on the canal bank.
No problems at all, hardly anyone fishing down there, weed still about, and growing, could be a bumper year next season.
Working parties will soon be on us, plenty of graft to be done. That's all for now apart from 'Come on you Mirrors'
As the season draws to an end, the fishing has been very good, with Bream over 7lb, Carp over 20lb and good bags of small fish and the odd Tench.
As most of you saw, the bottom end of the lake was very weedy this season, which made a safe haven for the fish, away from the cormorants.
We have had to cut a lot off the over hanging trees on the Island, as many of you have lost Leads, Floats, etc. Our main object for the working parties, is to build up all the swims on the marina bank and clear up the fallen trees. So could you please bring Rake's, Saw's, and loppers on the work parties.
On a closing note, it has been noticed that a lot of rubbish has been left behind by Anglers. It would be appreciated if you could please take it home with you.
I cannot vouch for the fishing at the lake of late as I have not had much opportunity to go. The few trips I have had after Pike have resulted in a few Jacks. The fish reports up until Xmas showed good Bream, Tench and Carp, and as far as the overall reports go we have had more than twice the amount from Rowley than both of the other lakes put together!
I have recently met with the Council to review the lake on site and they are very happy with the estate and our continuing good relations, let us all ensure we keep it that way. The only work they are keen to see completed is the reinforcing of the overflow which we will attend to at the forthcoming working parties.
On the subject of working parties we will continue this year with the swim refurbishment and pruning back. The thorny question of the weed always crosses my mind at this stage of the season and my current thinking is that it will not require any treatment in the close season although I will strictly monitor its progress and act when necessary to continue to keep it under control.
In additional to maintaining our good relations with the Council we need to continue our excellent relations with the local farmer. Please keep to the recognised paths and treat the livestock with respect. Please continue to be vigilant in the eradication of litter or all kinds. As this is a very popular venue we need to continue our efforts to look after the stock and treat every capture with the utmost care.
One final point, please keep a look out for mink, if you see any evidence please call me immediately so I can deal with it.
The web site continues apace thanks to your input and enthusiasm. I even get e-mails from members correcting the site when I mess up!! One member even alerted me to a very embarrassing message on the message board that was definitely nothing to do with fishing! It was swiftly removed and I hope it did not cause offence to anybody. This was planted not by a member but by an outside body, your vigilance is always welcome.
A massive two hundred and forty one e-fish report forms have been received beating last years 98 by a mile. Loads of pictures continue to be received both from digital cameras and photographs which are scanned and uploaded. A new feature I added this year is the water report page where the ordinary member can tell the world what's going on at the bankside, please continue to send in your thoughts.
The site advertises the club well and I get plenty of e-mails from prospective members interested in joining. A lot of these enquiries turn into new members. The more information that comes in the more lively and active the site is. I update it regularly and I know lots of you visit the site and visit it often, from the analysis of the usage logs for the site. So please continue with the e-reports, the fish photos and the water reports, as this makes for a good site internally and presents exactly the sort of image outside that we wish to of a well run, active club with some great fish and some very active enthusiastic members.
A magnificent 241 fish reports have been received so far this season, I'm sure that there are still lots to come in as usual at the end of the season or if you have forgotten please get them in now. We will be looking at all the reports and working out who will win our much coveted trophies shortly after the end of the season for presentation at the AGM.
The highlights of the season so far are:
Harefield No1 - 38 Reports
Harefield No2 - 39 Reports
Rowley - 165 Reports
